Field trip to The Princess Taiping

Leader: Captain Nelson Liu

on

Friday, 6 June 2008, 1-2 pm

The Royal Geographical Society is delighted to offer an exclusive field trip to the Princess Taiping, a full scale replica Ming era junk, presently in Aberdeen, before she sails across the Pacific, commanded by Captain Nelson Liu.

The Princess Taiping is a replica of a "gan zeng chuan", made by a group of experienced craftsmen from Fujian Province, China. They have built an exact replica of a Ming Dynasty vessel, using only the materials and traditional techniques of more than 600 years ago. The purpose of this voyage is to prove that such an ancient junk is capable to sail to North America and return. Members who would like to tour the vessel before she sets sail should apply by telephone to the Society.
