Event Detail
The South Pole
Lecture by: Jennifer Murray
Location: Fringe Club 2 Lower Albert Road
2010-03-18

The Literary Festival is running this event  on the South Pole with speakers including  Jennifer Murray. Jennifer is a superb speaker and a good friend of the RGS, therefore we have taken an allocation of tickets for RGS members, costing $80 each. The details of the event are as follows:

"In May 2007, two helicopter pilots, Jennifer Murray and Colin Bodill, set a new world record, becoming the first pilots to fly around the world via the South and North Poles. In this event, Jennifer Murray presents a stunning slideshow of their epic and courageous five-and-a-half month journey over 25 countries, flying more than 33,000 nautical miles. Almost a century before Jennifer’s flight to the Poles, Scott of the Antarctic led the Terra Nova expedition to Antarctica in what became a race against the Norwegians to reach the South Pole. Following Jennifer's presentation, Robert Ryan, in conversation with Justin Hill, tells the story of Scott and his team of explorers, thus giving a fascinating double-billed event."
