The tour takes place in Yau Ma Tai and offers the opportunity to explore one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Kowloon. It is home to craftsmen, market workers and gangsters alike. Members visit a traditional pawn shop, meet an octogenarian letter writer sat with his 50 year old typewriter and see stacks upon stacks of hand-hammered copper pots and wooden hammers.
Members leave with new insights into Hong Kong’s culture and history.
A local lunch is then going to be served with tea.
Local author Lindsay Varty is half-British, half-Macanese and was raised in Hong Kong and has a long interest in its history. She studied at the University of Nottingham in the UK and has been a freelance journalist for nearly 10 years. She is also a professional rugby player for the Borelli Walsh USRC Tigers and a Rugby 7s player for the Hong Kong Sports Institute. Her book has been featured on CNN, The Guardian, SCMP and more.
