The vanishing world of Wilfred Thesiger

Michael Asher (Dinner, Lecture and Film)
Tuesday, 18 Sep 2001
The Furama Hotel
Wilfred Thesiger is perhaps the greatest traveller of the 20th century, a man whose books and photos have inspired thousands of others. The desert explorer and author Michael Asher's life was irrevocably changed by Thesiger's book "Arabian Sands" and he went in search of what remained of Thesiger's world and wrote a biography of the explorer. After dinner, a documentary entitled "Death deceit and the Nile" was shown which follows Michael Asher retracing the footsteps of Richard Burton and John Hanning Speke to find the source of the Nile river.
