Chi Lin Nunnery with Professor Ho

Field Trip
Saturday, 27 Oct 2001
The Professor of Architecture at Chinese University took a group of members around the magnificently restored nunnery of Chi Lin. Renovated in traditional Tang era architecture, no nails were used in this project, only wooden doweling and brackets. The 3 hectare site comprises various impressive Buddhist halls and gardens which owe much to Pure Land ideals. The Professor gave a lecture first, looking at relevant features of Buddhism and the planning of this project, before taking the group around the nunnery; two highpoints during the tour were to visit restricted areas in which a Pure Land painting was displayed and a beautiful cloister for prayer.
