The RGS is pleased to offer a guided tour meeting an artist who upcycles fallen trees into furniture and art, and a tour of a paper mill that gives drinks cartons a second life.

The tour travels to Yuen Long in the north-west New Territories and meets an artist who launched an enterprise after Typhoon Mangkhut uprooted tens of thousands of trees across the city. His goal was to provide a positive legacy by reusing the wood, and in 2020 upcycled over 300 tons. From using simple fallen logs, he turns them into wooden products such as furniture, toys and art installations.

Following the theme of upcycling, we get to meet another entrepreneur who processes from discarded drink cartons collected across Hong Kong into toilet rolls.

Highlights include:

Lunch in a family run English-HK fusion restaurant.
Carving your own pair of wooden coasters
Hike with panoramic views of the surrounding wetlands and villages.
