The Royal Geographical Society is pleased to welcome Rory Mackay to lead a field trip to discover some of the most spectacular views and history that Po Toi has to offer. Po Toi is steeped in folklore and has plenty of incredible scenic and historic spots to check out.
The route of the guided hike includes:
- The beautiful Tin Hau Temple
- Bronze Age rock carving that’s some 3,000 years old
- Village houses that are being swallowed up by nature
- Epic cliff scenery
- Amazing rock formations
Rory Mackay stops at various spots to highlight and explain local points of interest to attendees.
The hike first goes from the pier to the lighthouse. It then ascents into the hills, where there are amazing views. It then traverses to a scenic route with stops by the Tin Hau Temple and other attractions, followed by a direct route down to lunch. Total: 6km.
Rory Mackay was born in Hong Kong and grew up between here and Scotland, and has been a Sai Kung native since the age of 3. He holds a degree in architecture. He has spent time working and skiing in New Zealand and has also lived in Australia. He began his adventure career sailing an 80ft yacht from Scotland to the Svalbard archipelago near the North Pole.
Rory has completed a solo bicycle trip across Vietnam and China, cycling from Saigon to Hong Kong. In addition, he has cycled across Africa, completing the solo ride from Cape Town to Cairo within 6 months, and climbed of some high altitude routes in the Himalayas and Andes. He now runs an adventure tour company called Wild Hong Kong.
Schedule:
10.00 am Meet up at Aberdeen Ferry Pier
11.00 am Arrive in Po Toi and begin the coastal hike toward the lighthouse,
1.00 pm Lunch at Ming Kee Seafood Restaurant
3.15 pm Finish lunch and proceed to Po Toi Pier
3:30 pm Ferry departs from Po Toi
4:40 pm Arrival Aberdeen
Cost: Members of the RGS and their guests are most welcome to attend this event, which is HK$280 for RGS Members and HK$380 for guests, including hiking guide. Lunch and ferry costs are to be borne by attendees.
